Paris, Yerevan to formalise de facto strategic partnership French Foreign Minister says

26 May 2025 15:49

Armenia and France intend to officially document their already existing strategic relationship, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced during a joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan in Yerevan.

“The relations between our countries and peoples are largely strategic already, considering the various areas of cooperation we have previously discussed. This includes collaboration on infrastructure, technological projects, and a number of programmes implemented by French regions,” Caliber.Az quotes Barrot as saying, per Armenian media.

He added that the two sides plan to formalise this cooperation through a draft strategic partnership agreement. This partnership will cover new programmes and projects for several decades ahead, including in the defence sector.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan highlighted that the two countries collaborate in areas where even states with formal strategic agreements do not.

“As has already been stated, we will work to ensure our deep cooperation is given the proper name and recognition on paper,” Mirzoyan said.
