Azerbaijani theatre in Derbent set to reopen, celebrating artistic legacy
The restoration of the Azerbaijani theatre in Derbent, Russia’s Dagestan, is approaching its final stages and is expected to reopen in the near future, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova announced.
Highlighting the rich cultural tapestry of Dagestan, Zakharova emphasized the republic’s diverse heritage, noting its renowned folklore and folk crafts as a distinctive hallmark, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“There are 11 national theatres in the republic. Yesterday in Derbent we saw how the reconstruction of the Azerbaijan theatre is being completed—it is about to open,” she stated.
Zakharova also drew attention to the region’s long-standing traditions in various crafts, including artistic metalwork and stone carving, particularly praising the famed Kubachi craftsmanship showcased at the local museum in Derbent.
The reopening of the Azerbaijani theatre is anticipated to further strengthen cultural exchange and preserve the unique artistic legacy of Dagestan’s Azerbaijani community.
