SOCAR chief stresses Baku's climate goals at Ashgabat conference
Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR) President Rovshan Najaf laid out the country’s climate strategy and technological advances at the International Scientific and Practical Conference on “Environmental Aspects of Implementing Innovative Technologies in the Development of Hydrocarbon Deposits” (TESC), held in Ashgabat.
Addressing top energy leaders and policymakers from across the globe, Najaf emphasised SOCAR’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, outlining key decarbonisation efforts and renewable energy projects spearheaded by “SOCAR Green,” the company’s green energy subsidiary, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He detailed initiatives such as low-carbon technologies, the use of satellite monitoring for methane emissions, and partnerships aimed at curbing the environmental impact of hydrocarbon production.
The SOCAR president noted that Azerbaijan is actively involved in the fight against global climate change and emphasised that holding such a prestigious event as COP29 in Baku is a vivid indicator of the country's serious approach to environmental issues.
The TESC conference brought together high-ranking officials and industry leaders in two thematic sessions. The first focused on the future of energy, integrating innovative technologies with environmental sustainability in hydrocarbon development.
The second session examined the role of human capital in fostering environmental responsibility, particularly in reducing methane and CO₂ emissions. Discussions centered around methane mitigation strategies in oil and gas production, as well as carbon reduction technologies and the promotion of a sustainable safety culture in the energy sector.
