Organization of Turkic States set to establish Civil Protection Mechanism
The Organization of Turkic States (OTS) is set to create a unified Civil Protection Mechanism, marking a significant step toward enhanced regional cooperation in disaster response and public safety.
A draft law titled “On the Approval of the ‘Agreement on the Establishment of the Civil Defence Mechanism of the Organization of Turkic States’” has been submitted to Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis (Parliament) for consideration, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The proposed legislation was reviewed today, June 10, during a session of the Milli Majlis Committee on Defence, Security, and Anti-Corruption. Following a thorough discussion, the committee recommended the draft law for approval at the upcoming plenary session of the parliament.
The agreement aims to formalise a coordinated framework among OTS member states to address emergencies, natural disasters, and other crises, ensuring swift and effective joint responses.
The establishment of this mechanism underscores the OTS’s commitment to strengthening collective security and resilience across its member states, which include Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and observer states such as Turkmenistan and Hungary. Further details on the implementation and scope of the civil defence mechanism are expected to be clarified following the plenary session.
