Kremlin says Russia ready to provide humanitarian aid to Iran

Moscow is ready to provide humanitarian assistance to Tehran if requested, said Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov.

“Well, if there are any requests, of course, they will be reviewed quickly and promptly,” Peskov said in response to a question on whether Russia is prepared to offer humanitarian aid to Iran if needed, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

The current Iran-Israel conflict intensified when Israel launched Operation Rising Lion on June 13, 2025, targeting Iran's nuclear facilities, military infrastructure, and senior commanders. Iran retaliated with missile and drone attacks, raising fears of a broader Middle East war. Russia, a long-standing ally of Iran and a partner to Israel, has been thrust into a delicate diplomatic position. The conflict coincides with Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine and its efforts to maintain influence in the Middle East amid shifting regional dynamics, including the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.

President Vladimir Putin emphasised resolving issues related to Iran's nuclear program through "political and diplomatic means." In phone calls with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on June 13, 2025.

Besides, Putin urged both sides to exercise restraint and return to negotiations. Russia offered to mediate between Middle Eastern rivals, proposing to facilitate de-escalation and potentially handle Iran's enriched uranium to support a civilian nuclear program.
