Azerbaijan condemns deadly attack on Israeli diplomats in Washington

Azerbaijan has expressed deep condolences to Israel following the killing of two Israeli diplomats in a deadly attack in Washington D.C., calling the act "heinous" and "cowardly."

"We extend our deepest condolences to the State of Israel and the families of two Israeli diplomats who were killed as a result of heinous attack in Washington D.C. We strongly condemn this cowardly act of violence, which seeks to sow fear and division," Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry wrote in a statement on X, Caliber.Az reports. 

As was reported earlier, a man and a woman, both employees of the Israeli embassy, were fatally shot while leaving an event at the Capital Jewish Museum on the evening of May 21.The Metropolitan Police Department identified the suspect as Elias Rodriguez, 30, of Chicago.

Police say Rodriguez was seen pacing outside the museum before approaching a group of four people and opening fire. He then entered the museum, where he was detained by event security. Upon his arrest, he reportedly shouted, “Free, free Palestine,” according to Police Chief Pamela Smith.
