Azerbaijan arrests Russian citizen for promoting separatism and ties to Armenia Sits in Detention with Vardanyan and Harutyunyan
In recent days, Armenian media outlets have been spreading information about the detention of Russian citizen Zahiraddin Ibrahimov, who was apprehended by Azerbaijan's State Security Service (SSS) during investigative operations and brought to Baku.
Ibrahimov, who is presented as the chairman of the Committee for the Protection of Ethnic Minority Rights in Azerbaijan, had been residing in Yekaterinburg and for many years took part in propaganda events held in the Armenian capital, where he made anti-Azerbaijani statements, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Between 2005 and 2020, he repeatedly participated in so-called conferences in Armenia, where he voiced false accusations against Azerbaijan and made biased claims. Ibrahimov also reportedly acted on behalf of Armenian structures aimed at inciting separatism within Azerbaijan.
Earlier, lawyer Sayyara Aliyeva confirmed that her client had indeed been placed in a detention facility operated by the SSS. According to her, during interrogation, Ibrahimov admitted to having connections with Armenia and provided testimony on several other matters.
Details of the special operation that led to the transfer of Zahiraddin Ibrahimov to Azerbaijan have not yet been disclosed. However, it is known that he is being held in the SSS pre-trial detention centre alongside Ruben Vardanyan and Arayik Harutyunyan and will be held accountable for crimes targeting Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
In the Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty, as declared in Azerbaijan for 2025, the arrest and transfer of Ibrahimov sends a clear message to anyone who dares to engage in activities undermining the constitutional order and territorial sovereignty of the state.
The editorial team has submitted a request for comment to the SSS press office on the matter. The story remains under close watch.
