ANAMA: Azerbaijan neutralises over 600 explosives in Karabakh
The Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) has released its latest weekly update detailing clearance operations across formerly occupied territories.
Between May 19 to 25, ANAMA specialists conducted large-scale demining activities in several regions, including Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khankendi, Khojavend, Lachin, Shusha, Fuzuli, Gubadli, Jabrayil, and Zangilan, Caliber.Az reports.
A total of 80 anti-personnel mines, 52 anti-tank mines, and 683 unexploded ordnance were located and rendered safe during this period.
The agency reports that an area spanning approximately 1,795.7 hectares was cleared of mines and unexploded munitions as part of the ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and rehabilitation of liberated regions.
To recall, Azerbaijan has launched a major demining operation in territories recently liberated from Armenian control, following reports that Armenia planted landmines to block displaced civilians from returning and create lasting security threats.
Led by the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) and coordinated with defence and emergency agencies, the effort aims to clear dangerous areas and ensure safety. Officials say the operation is crucial for post-conflict recovery, allowing civilians to resettle safely and communities to rebuild.
