Trump warns Iran to agree to nuclear deal "before it's too late"

13 June 2025 14:38

President Donald Trump is urging Iranian officials to strike a nuclear deal with the United States, suggesting that the prolonged negotiations between the two nations contributed to Israel's decision to launch its preemptive strike.

“I told them, in the strongest of words, to ‘just do it,’ but no matter how hard they tried, no matter how close they got, they just couldn’t get it done,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, referring to the proposed nuclear agreement, Caliber.Az reports.

The president stated that he had previously given Iran “chance after chance” to reach a deal and accused Tehran of failing to seize the opportunity. He warned that continued resistance would only result in more devastation.

Highlighting US and Israeli military capabilities, Trump emphasised that both nations possess advanced weaponry and are willing to use it.

“The United States makes the best and most lethal military equipment anywhere in the World, BY FAR, and that Israel has a lot of it, with much more to come - And they know how to use it,” he stated.

The US president also alluded to the deaths of senior Iranian military officials in recent strikes, declaring that Iranian hardliners “spoke bravely, but they didn’t know what was about to happen. They are all dead now, and it will only get worse!”

Trump warned of further “planned attacks” and urged Iran to act swiftly.

“There is still time to make this slaughter… come to an end,” he said. “Iran must make a deal, before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian Empire.”

Earlier, Iran effectively suspended its participation in nuclear negotiations with the United States following Israeli airstrikes on its territory. The sixth round of talks, initially scheduled for June 15, now faces uncertainty.

The fifth round of indirect talks concluded on May 23 and centered on Iran’s uranium enrichment program, the most contentious issue between the two sides. The US has proposed a new nuclear agreement that demands a full halt to uranium enrichment, a condition Iran has dismissed as “unacceptable.” A senior Iranian official criticised Washington’s proposal as “incoherent and disjointed.”

Meanwhile, Israel has maintained that Iran’s entire nuclear infrastructure must be dismantled, arguing that Tehran’s nuclear capabilities pose an existential threat.
