Polish president considers political future as possible PM
Polish President Andrzej Duda has indicated he would consider taking on the role of prime minister if the opportunity arose, signalling a possible continuation of his political career beyond the presidency.
Duda was asked whether he would entertain the idea of leading the government after his term ends, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“I would seriously consider it,” he said. “Who said that such a scenario is impossible?” While Duda did not confirm any concrete plans, his remarks have stirred speculation about a potential political reshuffle, especially as Poland approaches the second round of its presidential election on June 1.
The prospect becomes more tangible if Karol Nawrocki — a right-wing candidate closely aligned with Duda — secures victory. Nawrocki has received vocal support from the president throughout the campaign and is seen as a figure who could facilitate Duda’s transition into the role of prime minister. Duda’s second and final term as president concludes in August 2025.
The politician was elected president of Poland in 2015 and re-elected for a second term in 2020. According to the Polish constitution, holding the highest state office is allowed for only two five-year terms. Earlier, Polish media reported that after his term ends, Duda might take a position within the International Olympic Committee, move into diplomatic service, or pursue a career in academia.
