Poland aims to profit from Ukraine’s reconstruction, PM says
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said Poland aims to play a central role in the postwar reconstruction of Ukraine and profit from the process.
"It is not wrong to say: we want to earn big money for Poland on the reconstruction of Ukraine. We want to help, but we also want to earn money on it and this special hub is needed for this,” the prime minister said speaking at the Euroterminal Sławków in the Silesian province on May 26, Caliber.Az reports via Polish media.
Tusk confirmed that the Industrial Development Agency (ARP) and its partners will invest approximately $1 billion in a five-phase expansion of the port. The project aims to more than double the terminal’s annual transshipment capacity—from 285,000 to over 500,000 standard containers (TEU).
Tusk emphasised that Euroterminal Sławków will be a vital hub not only for east-west trade routes involving Ukraine, Asia, and Western Europe but also for north-south connections across the continent.
“It is not just Ukraine, it is not just the eastern direction. That is why we are investing so much money and so much work to make Sławków this European logistics power, this largest center in Europe, because it is such a logistics heart, where these flows are not only in the east-west direction, but also north-south,” he emphasised.
The terminal serves as a key transshipment point for container traffic between Asia and Europe, particularly via Ukraine. The expansion, according to Tusk, positions Poland as a logistics leader in the region and a strategic partner in Ukraine’s rebuilding efforts.
