German FM shocked by Gaza conditions, urges cautious approach to Israel solidarity
Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has voiced his profound concern over the ongoing Israeli military campaign in Gaza, emphasizing that Germany will not be compelled into unconditional solidarity with Israel amid the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region.
Wadephul expressed shock at the severe conditions faced by civilians in Gaza, where access to essential food and medical supplies has been drastically restricted, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
He underscored the distinction between Germany’s unwavering commitment to combating anti-Semitism and its support for Israel’s right to exist and maintain security, cautioning against using these principles to justify the current hostilities in Gaza.
“Our committed fight against anti-Semitism and our full support for the right to exist and the security of the state of Israel must not be instrumentalised for the conflict and the warfare currently being waged in the Gaza Strip,” Wadephul said
Reflecting on Germany’s future stance, the foreign minister noted the gravity of the situation.
“We are now at a point where we have to think very carefully about what further steps to take,” he stated, though refrained from providing specific details.
